The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 2" x 72" and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, providing fast-cutting, continuous cut, and long-life performance suitable for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; this belt should not be used wet. Aluminum oxide mineral, known for its cut-rate, durability, and long life, is widely used on various materials in woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles are bonded to the cloth backing with resin, forming a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure. The belt is intended for use with a range of industrial belt sanders, with options including wider belts for wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth rough metal edges, or add grain to stainless steel sheets; medium-width belts for edge sanders on flat narrow surfaces such as panel edges; and narrow belts for portable belt sanders used on wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belts are available with different splice types, including film media splices, which create a secure bond with a joining film to minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth running and consistent finishing, and sine wave splices, which use interlocking fingers to smoothly pass over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area, commonly used for coarser grits.
