The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 2" x 72" and features P180 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. Designed for finishing on metal, its closed coat construction offers a consistent, fine finish suitable for producing a grain pattern; however, this belt should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial settings due to its cut-rate, durability, and longevity, applicable to various materials in woodworking and metalworking including ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles are strongly bonded to the cloth backing with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts are available in multiple widths and lengths to fit various belt sanding tools for different applications on wood and metal. Wider belts are designed for wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth metal sheet edges, or add grain patterns to stainless steel, while medium-width belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts are compatible with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belt splices include film media splices, which use a joining film to minimize chatter marks and provide smooth running and consistent finishing, and sine wave splices consisting of interlocking fingers that enable smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area.
