The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measuring 1-1/2" x 60" with 36 grit aluminum oxide abrasive features fast-cutting aluminum oxide grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, delivering continuous cut and long-life performance ideal for more aggressive dry sanding applications. Designed for finishing on metal, its closed coat construction provides a consistent, fine finish suitable for producing a grain pattern; however, the belt should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is favored for its cut-rate, durability, and longevity, applicable on various materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are bonded to the cloth backing with resin, ensuring strong adhesion to withstand high heat and pressure. Abrasive belts are offered in multiple widths and lengths, compatible with different belt sanding tools for diverse applications; wider belts suit wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal sheet edges, medium-width belts work with edge sanders for sanding flat narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts are used with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending smaller wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belts include various splice options such as film media splices that provide a secure bond with joining film to minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth operation, producing consistent finishing results, and sine wave splices made of interlocking fingers that allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add strength to the joint area.
