The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 1-1/2" x 60" and features 50 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains bonded with resin to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, designed for fast cutting and long-life performance in aggressive dry sanding applications on both wood and metal. The closed coat construction provides a consistent, fine finish suitable for producing grain patterns on metal and is not intended for wet use. Aluminum oxide, known for its cut-rate, durability, and longevity, is widely used across woodworking and metalworking industries, including ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles are strongly bonded to the backing for high heat and pressure resistance. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit numerous industrial belt sanders: wider belts for wide belt sanders used in dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal edges, medium-width belts for edge sanders on narrow flat surfaces like panel edges, and narrow belts for portable sanders working on wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belt ends are joined by various splices, including film media splices that use a joining film to reduce chatter marks and ensure smooth running and consistent finishing, and sine wave splices constructed from interlocking fingers that facilitate smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area, typically used for coarser grades.
