The 3M™ cloth belt 341D 4" x 24" 80 grit aluminum oxide features fast-cutting aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance necessary for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal, with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern. This belt is not intended for wet use. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial applications due to its cut-rate, durability, and long life, making it suitable for a variety of materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are securely adhered to the cloth backing with resin, creating a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure. Available in various widths and lengths, these abrasive belts fit many belt sanding tools for different applications on wood and metal; wider belts are used with wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth rough cut edges of metal sheets, or add grain patterns to stainless steel sheets, while medium-width belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts are compatible with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belts include splices that join the belt ends using either film media splices for a secure bond that minimizes chatter marks and produces consistent finishes, or sine wave splices constructed of interlocking fingers that allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and provide added joint strength, with sine wave splices typically used for coarser grits.
