The 3M™ cloth belt 341D 3" x 24" 40 grit aluminum oxide features fast-cutting aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, delivering continuous cut and long-life performance suitable for aggressive dry sanding applications. Designed for finishing on metal, the closed coat construction provides a consistent fine finish and is ideal for producing a grain pattern. This belt is not intended for wet use. Aluminum oxide mineral, known for its cut-rate, durability, and long life, is widely used in woodworking and metalworking on materials including ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles are bonded to the cloth backing with resin, creating a robust bond that withstands high heat and pressure. The belts are available in multiple widths and lengths to fit various belt sanding tools, with wider belts used on wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing rough metal edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel, medium widths for edge sanders on flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges, and narrow belts for portable sanders on wood pieces such as cabinet doors. Belt ends may be joined with various splice types: film media splices use a joining film for a secure bond that minimizes chatter and provides smooth operation and consistent finishes, while sine wave splices utilize interlocking fingers that enable smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area, typically used for coarser grits.
