The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 3 inches by 24 inches and features 60 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. Designed for metal finishing, its closed coat construction delivers a consistent fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; however, it should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral used offers high cut rate, durability, and long life, making it suitable for a wide variety of materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles adhered to the cloth backing with resin create a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths, compatible with many types of belt sanding tools for wood and metal applications; wider belts fit wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal sheet edges, medium belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces, and narrow belts fit portable belt sanders for sanding or blending smaller wood pieces such as cabinet doors. The belts incorporate different splices, including film media splices that provide a secure bond with minimal chatter marks and smooth operation, and sine wave splices made of interlocking fingers that allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add joint strength, typically used for coarser grit belts.
