The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 6" x 48" and features 36 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing metal with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; however, it should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is known for its cut rate, durability, and long life, making it suitable for a wide variety of materials in woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles are bonded to the cloth backing with resin, which creates a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure. The belt is compatible with various belt sanding tools in different widths and lengths, fitting wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing metal edges, and adding grain patterns to stainless steel sheets; medium-width belts for edge sanders to sand flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges; and narrow belts for portable belt sanders to sand or blend wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belt ends can be joined with splices such as film media splices, which use a joining film to minimize chatter marks and produce smooth running belts with consistent finishing results, or sine wave splices constructed of interlocking fingers for smooth travel over contact wheels, reduced hinging, and strengthened joints, typically used for coarser grits.
