The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 3" x 24" and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal, with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern, but it should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is known for its cut rate, durability, and long life, suitable for use on a wide variety of materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The resin bond ensures the abrasive particles adhere strongly to the cloth backing, withstanding high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools; wider belts are used with wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal sheet edges, medium-width belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges, and narrow belts are designed for portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors. Different splices join the belt ends: film media splices create a secure bond with a joining film that minimizes chatter marks for a smooth running belt and consistent finishing, while sine wave splices consist of interlocking fingers that allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and provide added joint strength.
