The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 2" x 72" and features P320 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for aggressive dry sanding applications. Designed for finishing on metal, its closed coat construction offers a consistent fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; this belt should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is known for its cut rate, durability, and longevity and is commonly used on various materials in woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles are firmly adhered to the cloth backing with resin, creating a strong bond capable of withstanding high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts are available in multiple widths and lengths to fit a range of industrial belt sanders and applications, with wider belts used on wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal sheet edges, medium-width belts for edge sanders on flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts for portable sanders on wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belt ends are joined with various splices such as film media splices, which use a joining film to minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth running and consistent finishes, and sine wave splices that feature interlocking fingers to travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area; sine wave splices are typically used for coarser grits.
