The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 1" x 42" and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, designed for fast cutting, continuous use, and long-life performance in more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is intended for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that produces a consistent, fine finish and suitable grain pattern, but it should not be used wet. Aluminum oxide is highly durable and offers cut-rate effectiveness, commonly used on woodworking and metalworking materials including ferrous alloys. The abrasive grains are bonded with resin to the cloth backing, creating a strong bond able to withstand high heat and pressure. These belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit different industrial belt sanders; wider belts are for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal sheet edges, medium widths fit edge sanders for flat surfaces, and narrow belts are for portable belt sanders used in sanding or blending wood pieces. Belt ends are joined with various splice types: film media splices use a joining film to reduce chatter marks and ensure smooth running, while sine wave splices have interlocking fingers for smooth travel over contact wheels, reduced hinging, and added joint strength, typically used for coarser grit belts.
