The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 2" x 48" and features 60 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing for continuous cut and long-life performance, ideal for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing metal with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern. The belt should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is known for its cut-rate, durability, and long life, making it suitable for a wide variety of materials in woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles are bonded to the cloth backing with resin, ensuring a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure. Abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths and are used with different sanding tools for both wood and metal applications. Wider belts fit wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing metal sheet edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel. Medium-width belts attach to edge sanders for sanding narrow flat surfaces like panel edges, while narrow belts are used with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors. The belts come with various splices, including film media splices that provide a secure bond with joining film to minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth belt operation for consistent finishing, and sine wave splices made with interlocking fingers that travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add strength to the joint, typically used for coarser grits.
