The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 3-1/2" x 15-1/2" and features P150 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, offering fast-cutting performance and long life for aggressive dry sanding applications. Designed for finishing on metal, its closed coat construction provides a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; however, the belt should not be used wet. Aluminum oxide mineral is widely used for its cut-rate, durability, and suitability for a range of materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are securely bonded to the cloth backing with resin, enabling resistance to high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools, with wider belts used on wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal sheet edges, medium-width belts for edge sanders sanding flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts for portable belt sanders used in sanding or blending wood pieces. Belt splices vary, with options including film media splices that create secure bonds with joining film to minimize chatter marks for smooth running and consistent finishing, and sine wave splices constructed with interlocking fingers to enable smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and increase joint strength.
