The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 2-1/2" x 48" and features 36 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, designed for fast-cutting and long-life performance in aggressive dry sanding applications. It is intended for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; this belt should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial applications due to its cut rate, durability, and long life, applicable on various materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are bonded to the cloth backing with resin to create a strong bond capable of withstanding high heat and pressure. The belt is compatible with a broad range of industrial belt sanders, with uses varying by belt width: wider belts are suitable for wide belt sanders used on wood panels and metal sheets; medium-width belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges; narrow belts are for portable sanders applied to smaller wood pieces such as cabinet doors. The belt incorporates a film media splice that securely bonds the ends with a joining film to minimize chatter marks, ensure smooth operation, and deliver consistent finishing results, while a sine wave splice featuring interlocking fingers is constructed for smooth travel over contact wheels, reduced hinging, and added joint strength, typically used for coarser applications.
