The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 2-1/2" x 48" and features 50 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for metal finishing with a closed coat construction that delivers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern. This belt is not intended for wet use. The aluminum oxide mineral is well-regarded for its cut-rate, durability, and long life and can be used on a variety of materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are adhered with resin, creating a strong bond resistant to high heat and pressure. The belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit different industrial belt sanding tools for diverse applications on wood and metal. Wider belts are compatible with wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing rough metal edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel sheets. Medium-width belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, while narrow belts are used with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belts include various splices such as film media splices, which provide a secure bond with minimal chatter marks for smooth operation and consistent finishing, and sine wave splices constructed with interlocking fingers to allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area.
