The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 2-1/2" x 48" and features 60 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing designed for continuous cut and long-life performance in aggressive dry sanding applications. It is intended for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that provides a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; this belt should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral used offers high cut-rate, durability, and long life, making it suitable for a wide variety of materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are firmly adhered with resin, forming a strong bond able to withstand high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools, with wider belts for wide belt sanders used for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing rough cut metal edges, medium-width belts for edge sanders used on flat narrow surfaces like panel edges, and narrow belts for portable belt sanders used for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors. Belts offer different splice types including a film media splice, which uses a joining film to minimize chatter marks, ensure smooth running, and produce consistent finishing results, as well as a sine wave splice featuring interlocking fingers to travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and provide added joint strength, typically used for coarser applications.
