The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 1-1/2" x 60" and features P180 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing fast-cutting action, continuous cut, and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern, but it should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial applications for its cut-rate, durability, and longevity, suitable for a variety of materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The resin bond creates a strong adhesion to the cloth backing, resisting high heat and pressure. Abrasive belts are available in multiple widths and lengths to fit a range of belt sanding tools for applications on wood and metal, with wider belts used for wide belt sanders on wood panels or metal sheets and narrower belts for portable sanders or edge sanding. Various splices join the belt ends, including film media splices that minimize chatter marks and sine wave splices with interlocking fingers that enhance smooth travel over wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area.
