The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 9 inches by 48 inches and features a 60 grit aluminum oxide abrasive with resin-bonded fast-cutting grains on a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, designed for continuous cut and long-life performance in aggressive dry sanding applications. It is intended for metal finishing with a closed coat construction that delivers a consistent fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; this belt should not be used wet. Aluminum oxide is favored for its cut rate, durability, and ability to work on various materials including ferrous alloys, making it the most commonly used industrial abrasive. The resin bond secures the abrasive particles to withstand high heat and pressure. The belts come in multiple widths and lengths for different belt sanding tools and applications on wood and metal: wide belts fit wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and metal sheets; medium-width belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges; and narrow belts are for portable belt sanders to sand or blend smaller wood pieces such as cabinet doors. Various splice types include a film media splice, which provides a secure bond with minimized chatter marks for smooth running and consistent finishing results, and a sine wave splice, constructed of interlocking fingers to allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add strength to the joint; sine wave splices are typically for coarser grit belts.
