The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 9" x 48" and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing fast cutting and long-life performance for aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed primarily for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that delivers a consistent fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern. This belt is not intended for wet use. The aluminum oxide abrasive is widely used in industrial applications due to its cut-rate, durability, and versatility on various materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are secured to the backing with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. These cloth belts come in various widths and lengths to suit different sanding tools and applications: wide belts for wide belt sanders used to dimension or finish wood panels and smooth rough-cut metal edges; medium-width belts for edge sanders on flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges; and narrow belts for portable belt sanders used to sand or blend wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belts feature different splice types including film media splices, which provide secure bonding with minimal chatter marks for smooth running and consistent finishing results, and sine wave splices made of interlocking fingers that reduce hinging and add joint strength, typically employed for coarser grits. The product is built to meet industrial standards for performance and durability, with no wet application allowed and a warranty covering manufacturing defects per 3M’s terms.
