The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 9 inches by 48 inches and features P120 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing for continuous cutting and long-life performance in aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for metal finishing with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern but should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral used is known for its cutting rate, durability, and longevity and is widely used across woodworking and metalworking industries, including ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles adhere firmly to the backing, which withstands high heat and pressure. The belt is compatible with a variety of belt sanding tools and applications, with wider belts used on wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal edges, medium-width belts for edge sanding flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts for portable belt sanders used in sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belt includes a splice joint, and both film media and sine wave splices are used; a film media splice provides a secure bond with a joining film that minimizes chatter marks and ensures smooth running and consistent finishes, whereas a sine wave splice uses interlocking fingers to travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add joint strength.
