The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 9" x 48" and features P150 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, designed for fast-cutting and continuous cut performance in aggressive dry sanding applications. It is intended for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; this belt should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral provides durability, long life, and effective cutting on a variety of materials including ferrous alloys, making it a common industrial abrasive. The resin bond creates a strong attachment of abrasive particles to the cloth backing, able to withstand high heat and pressure. The belt is available in a range of widths and lengths to fit various belt sanding tools for woodworking and metalworking, including wide belts for wide belt sanders used to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth metal sheet edges, or add grain patterns to stainless steel; medium-width belts for edge sanders used on flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges; and narrow belts for portable belt sanders to sand or blend wood pieces such as cabinet doors. Belt ends are joined by various splices, including film media splices that use a joining film to minimize chatter marks and guarantee smooth running and consistent finishing; sine wave splices consist of interlocking fingers that help the belt travel smoothly, reduce hinging, and add joint strength, generally used for coarser grits.
