The 3M™ cloth belt 341D 4" x 36" 40 grit aluminum oxide features fast-cutting aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance suitable for more aggressive dry sanding applications. Designed for finishing metal, the closed coat construction offers a consistent, fine finish and is appropriate for producing a grain pattern; this belt is not intended for wet use. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used industrially due to its cut rate, durability, and longevity, applicable on various materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are bonded strongly with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. This belt size fits various belt sanding tools with options tailored for different applications: wider belts are used on wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal edges, medium-width belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts are suited for portable belt sanders used to sand or blend wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belts are joined with splices such as film media splices, which use a joining film for a secure bond that reduces chatter marks and ensures smooth running and consistent finishes, or sine wave splices made from interlocking fingers that allow smooth travel over contact wheels, minimize hinging, and strengthen the joint area.
