The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 4 inches by 36 inches and features 50 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for metal finishing with a closed coat construction to deliver a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern. The belt is not intended for wet use. Aluminum oxide is favored for its cut-rate, durability, long life, and versatility across woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys, making it the most commonly used industrial abrasive. The abrasive particles are bonded to the cloth backing with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths for use on different belt sanding tools and applications involving wood and metal. Wider belts are used with wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing rough cut edges of metal sheets, or adding a grain pattern to stainless steel; medium-width belts fit edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges; and narrow belts are used with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending smaller wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belt splices include film media splices, which provide a secure bond with a joining film to minimize chatter marks, ensure smooth running, and produce consistent finishes, and sine wave splices, made of interlocking fingers that allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add strength to the joint area, typically used for coarser grits.
