The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 3 inches by 120 inches and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains bonded with resin to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, delivering continuous cut and long-life performance for aggressive dry sanding tasks. It is designed for metal finishing with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish suitable for producing a grain pattern, and it should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial applications due to its cutting efficiency, durability, and versatility on materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are firmly adhered to the cloth backing with a resin bond able to withstand high heat and pressure. Belts are available in various widths and lengths to fit different sanding tools; wider belts are used for wide belt sanders on wood panels and metal sheets, medium-width belts for edge sanders on flat narrow surfaces, and narrow belts for portable sanders on smaller wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belts feature splices that join the ends, with film media splices providing a secure bond that minimizes chatter marks and ensures smooth operation and consistent finishing, while sine wave splices have interlocking fingers that enable smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and enhance joint strength.
