The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 3 inches by 132 inches and features 36 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, designed for fast cutting and long-life performance ideal for more aggressive dry sanding applications. This belt has a closed coat construction suitable for finishing on metal by providing a consistent, fine finish and producing a grain pattern, and it should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral used is widely favored in industrial settings for its cut rate, durability, and long life, applicable to a variety of materials including woodworking and metalworking on ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles are bonded with resin to the cloth backing, enabling the belt to withstand high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts are available in multiple widths and lengths to fit various belt sanding tools for applications on wood and metal. Wider belts are for wide belt sanders used to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth rough metal sheet edges, or add a grain pattern to stainless steel sheets; medium-width belts fit edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges; narrow belts are used with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belts include various splice options: a film media splice that ensures a secure bond with a joining film for minimizing chatter marks, smooth running, and consistent finishing; and a sine wave splice made of interlocking fingers that allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and increase joint strength.
