The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 3" x 60" and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, delivering continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. Designed primarily for metal finishing, its closed coat construction provides a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; the belt should not be used wet. Aluminum oxide is widely used in industrial applications due to its cutting efficiency, durability, and versatility on a broad range of materials, including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive grains are adhered to the cloth backing with a resin bond that withstands high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to accommodate different belt sanding tools, with wider belts used on wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing rough metal edges, medium-width belts suited for edge sanders on flat, narrow surfaces, and narrow belts for portable sanders used in sanding or blending wood pieces. Belt ends are joined with various splice types, including a film media splice that secures the bond with a joining film to minimize chatter, ensure smooth running, and produce consistent finishes, as well as sine wave splices with interlocking fingers to reduce hinging, provide added joint strength, and allow the splice to travel smoothly over contact wheels.
