The 3M™ cloth belt 341D 9" x 48" P180 grit aluminum oxide features fast-cutting aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance suitable for aggressive dry sanding applications. Designed for finishing on metal, its closed coat construction offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; the belt is not intended for wet use. The aluminum oxide mineral is known for its cut-rate, durability, and long life, and is widely used across woodworking and metalworking, including on ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles are adhered with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. Available in various widths and lengths, these belts are compatible with different belt sanding tools: wider belts fit wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal edges; medium-width belts suit edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces; and narrow belts work with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belt ends are joined with various splice types, including film media splices that provide a secure bond minimizing chatter marks for smooth operation and consistent finish, and sine wave splices with interlocking fingers that enable smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area.
