The 3M™ Cloth Belt 340D measures 50" x 103" and features an 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive, designed as an open coat premium grade cloth belt that offers durability for aggressive stock removal while resisting loading, making it suitable for a variety of applications on wood and metal. This belt is recommended for wide belt sanding, edge sanding, or portable belt sanding. It utilizes fast-cutting aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long life. The open coat and load-resistant coating enhance performance particularly on soft woods. The washable backing supports high production environments by allowing intervals of washing to remove soft wood resin or pitch buildup. Aluminum oxide mineral is favored for cut-rate, durability, and longevity, applicable to diverse materials including ferrous alloys. The abrasive grains are strongly adhered to the cloth backing with resin, which withstands high heat and pressure. Abrasive belts vary in widths and lengths for compatibility with different belt sanding tools and applications, with wider belts used on wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing metal edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel sheets. Medium-width belts suit edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges, while narrow belts are compatible with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors.
