The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 3" x 79" and features 60 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, delivering continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction to provide a consistent fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; this belt is not intended for wet use. The aluminum oxide mineral offers a high cut rate, durability, and extended life, making it a preferred abrasive for woodworking and metalworking on a wide variety of materials, including ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles are securely bonded to the cloth backing with resin, which withstands high heat and pressure. The belts come in multiple widths and lengths to accommodate various sanding tools and applications: wider belts for wide belt sanders used to dimension or finish wood panels and smooth metal sheet edges, medium-width belts for edge sanders to sand flat narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts for portable belt sanders to sand or blend wood pieces like cabinet doors. Different belt splices include film media splices that use a joining film for a secure bond to minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth running and consistent finishing, and sine wave splices made of interlocking fingers that travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area; sine wave splices are typically used for coarser grit belts.
