The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 6 inches by 60 inches and features 36 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing. It is designed for more aggressive dry sanding applications, providing continuous cut and long-life performance. The belt has a closed coat construction ideal for finishing on metal, offering a consistent, fine finish and suitable for producing a grain pattern. This belt should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral offers a high cut rate, durability, and long life, making it suitable for a wide variety of materials, including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are tightly bonded to the cloth backing with resin, enabling resistance to high heat and pressure. The belts are compatible with various belt sanding tools and are available in multiple widths and lengths to suit different applications, such as wide belts for dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing edges of metal sheets, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel. Medium-width belts are used on edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges, while narrow belts fit portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces including cabinet doors. Belt ends are joined with splices such as film media splices, which use a joining film to reduce chatter marks and ensure smooth running and consistent finishing, or sine wave splices constructed of interlocking fingers that enhance smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area.
