The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 1" x 42" and features P240 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish suitable for producing a grain pattern, and it should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral used is popular for its cut-rate, durability, and long life, making it suitable for a wide range of materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are adhered with resin, creating a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts come in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools and applications on wood and metal, with wider belts for wide belt sanders used to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth rough cut edges of metal sheets, or add grain patterns to stainless steel sheets, medium-width belts for edge sanders used on flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts for portable belt sanders used to sand or blend wood pieces such as cabinet doors. The belts feature various splice types including a film media splice that achieves a secure bond with joining film to minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth running with consistent finishing results, and a sine wave splice constructed of interlocking fingers to travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and provide added strength to the joint area, typically used for coarser grits.
