The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 6 inches by 60 inches and features 60 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, designed for continuous cut and long-life performance in aggressive dry sanding applications. It is suitable for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that delivers a consistent, fine finish and grain pattern, but it should not be run wet. Aluminum oxide is widely used for its cut-rate, durability, and long life on various materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are firmly adhered to the cloth backing with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. The belts are available in various widths and lengths for use with different belt sanding tools, including wide belts for dimensioning and finishing wood panels or smoothing metal sheet edges, medium-width belts for sanding narrow flat surfaces such as panel edges with edge sanders, and narrow belts for portable belt sanders used in sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belt splices include film media splices, which minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth running and consistent finishing, and sine wave splices, constructed with interlocking fingers for smooth travel over contact wheels, reduced hinging, and enhanced joint strength, typically used for coarser grits.
