The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 2" x 60" with 36 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing fast-cutting, continuous cut, and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It features a closed coat construction suitable for finishing on metal, offering a consistent, fine finish and capable of producing a grain pattern; it should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is known for its cut-rate, durability, and long life, making it ideal for a wide variety of materials in woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles bonded with resin create a strong adhesion that withstands high heat and pressure. This abrasive belt is compatible with various belt sanding tools and is available in multiple widths and lengths to suit different applications: wider belts are used with wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing metal sheet edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel; medium-width belts fit edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges; and narrow belts are designed for portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors. The belts include different splice types: a film media splice uses a joining film to secure the bond, minimizing chatter marks and ensuring smooth operation with consistent finishing results, while a sine wave splice consists of interlocking fingers that travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint, typically applied to coarser grades of abrasive belts.
