The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 2" x 60" and features 50 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, offering fast-cutting capabilities with continuous cut and long-life performance ideal for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing metal with a closed coat construction that delivers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; however, the belt should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely favored in industrial use due to its cut rate, durability, and longevity, making it effective on various materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking tasks. The abrasive particles are securely adhered with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. Available in multiple widths and lengths, these belts fit a variety of sanding tools for applications such as dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing rough metal edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel. Medium-width belts are used on edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges, while narrow belts serve portable sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belts feature different splice types including film media splice, which uses a joining film to reduce chatter marks and ensure smooth running with consistent finishing, and sine wave splice, composed of interlocking fingers that allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and reinforce the joint area, typically applied for coarser grits.
