The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 2-1/2" x 48" and features P120 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance suited for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern, but it should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial settings due to its cut rate, durability, and longevity, applicable on a variety of materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are adhered using a resin bond that withstands high heat and pressure. The wide selection of belts available fits most industrial belt sanders, with wider belts for wide belt sanders used to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth rough-cut metal edges, or add grain to stainless steel; medium-width belts suited for edge sanders to sand flat, narrow surfaces; and narrow belts used with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending applications on wood pieces such as cabinet doors. The belts incorporate various splice types including a film media splice that secures the belt ends with a joining film to minimize chatter marks, ensure smooth running, and achieve consistent finishing results, and a sine wave splice made of interlocking fingers that smooth the belt travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and enhance joint strength.
