The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 1" x 48" and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, delivering continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal, with a closed coat construction that provides a consistent, fine finish while producing a grain pattern. The belt should not be used wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial settings for its cutting rate, durability, and longevity, suitable for a variety of materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are adhered with a strong resin bond that withstands high heat and pressure. Available in various widths and lengths, these abrasive belts fit a broad range of industrial belt sanders. Wide belts serve wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing rough metal edges, medium widths fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges, and narrow belts are used with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending smaller wood pieces like cabinet doors. Different splice types are employed to join the belt ends: a film media splice uses a joining film for a smooth running belt and consistent finishing results with minimal chatter marks, while sine wave splices consist of interlocking fingers designed to travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add strength to the joint, typically used for coarser grits.
