The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 1" x 60" and features P120 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, delivering continuous cut and long-life performance for aggressive dry sanding applications, particularly on metal. Its closed coat construction provides a consistent fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; however, the belt should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is highly durable and commonly used industrial abrasive effective on various materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are bonded to the cloth backing with resin, making the belt resistant to high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts are compatible with a variety of sanding tools and come in different widths and lengths, with wider belts suited for wide belt sanders used to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth metal sheet edges, or add grain patterns to stainless steel. Medium-width belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces, while narrow belts are suited for portable belt sanders to sand or blend wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belt ends are joined by different splice types: film media splices use a joining film to minimize chatter marks and produce smooth running belts with consistent finishing, while sine wave splices consist of interlocking fingers that enable smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area.
