The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 1/2" x 48" and features P320 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal, with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish suitable for producing a grain pattern, but it should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral used is valued for its cut rate, durability, and long life, making it ideal for various materials in woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. The abrasive particles are securely adhered to the cloth backing with resin, allowing the belt to withstand high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts come in different widths and lengths to fit a wide range of industrial belt sanders for applications such as dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing metal sheet edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel. Wider belts suit wide belt sanders, medium-width belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges, and narrow belts are for portable belt sanders used on wood pieces such as cabinet doors. Various splices join the belt ends, including film media splices, which minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth running for consistent finishing, and sine wave splices with interlocking fingers that allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and add strength to the joint, typically used for coarser abrasives.
