The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 3" x 132" with a 50 grit aluminum oxide abrasive. It features fast-cutting aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for aggressive dry sanding applications. The closed coat construction is designed for finishing on metal, offering a consistent, fine finish and suitability for producing a grain pattern; this belt should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used across woodworking and metalworking industries, effective on ferrous alloys and many other materials due to its cut rate, durability, and long life. Abrasive particles are adhered with resin to the cloth backing, forming a strong bond capable of withstanding high heat and pressure. These belts come in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools for multiple applications on wood and metal. Wider belts are compatible with wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing rough metal edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel. Medium-width belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges, while narrow belts are used with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces, such as cabinet doors. Various splice types are used to join belt ends, including film media splices that create secure bonds with joining film for smooth running and consistent finishing, and sine wave splices with interlocking fingers that allow the splice to travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area, typically used for coarser grit belts.
