The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 3 inches by 132 inches and features 60 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for aggressive dry sanding applications. Its closed coat construction produces a consistent, fine finish suitable for metal finishing and grain pattern production; the belt is not designed for wet use. Aluminum oxide is favored for its cutting rate, durability, and long life and is effective on various materials including ferrous alloys, commonly used in both woodworking and metalworking. The resin bond secures abrasive particles to the cloth backing, enabling the belt to withstand high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts come in multiple widths and lengths to fit various belt sanding tools for woodworking and metalworking tasks. Wide belts are used with wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth rough metal edges, or add grain patterns to stainless steel; medium belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges; narrow belts are suited for portable belt sanders to sand or blend wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belts are joined by various splices, including film media splices that use joining film to minimize chatter marks, ensure smooth running, and offer consistent finishing, and sine wave splices composed of interlocking fingers that smoothly travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area, typically used for coarser grit belts.
