The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 2" x 132" with 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains fast-cutting and resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, designed to provide continuous cut and long-life performance for aggressive dry sanding applications. It features a closed coat construction suitable for finishing on metal, offering a consistent, fine finish and the ability to produce a grain pattern; the belt is not intended for wet use. Aluminum oxide is widely used in industrial applications due to its cut rate, durability, and long life on materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are bonded to the cloth backing with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. Abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths for different belt sanding tools and applications such as dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing metal sheet edges, or adding grain to stainless steel sheets. Wider belts are used with wide belt sanders, medium-width belts with edge sanders for flat narrow surfaces like panel edges, and narrow belts with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors. Belt ends are joined by splices including film media splices that secure the bond with a joining film to minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth running and consistent finishing, or sine wave splices made of interlocking fingers that provide a smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area, typically used for coarser grits. The product meets relevant industrial standards for sanding belts and includes warranty terms as specified by 3M.
