The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 4" x 48" and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern. This belt should not be used wet. Aluminum oxide is widely used in industrial settings due to its cut-rate, durability, and long life, and it is effective on various materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive grains are strongly bonded by resin, allowing the belt to withstand high heat and pressure. Available in various widths and lengths, these abrasive belts are compatible with different belt sanding tools for multiple applications on wood and metal. Wider belts are used with wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing rough-cut metal edges, medium-width belts fit edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts are suited for portable belt sanders to sand or blend wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belt splices vary, with film media splices providing a secure bond that minimizes chatter marks and ensures smooth running, while sine wave splices use interlocking fingers to travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and offer added joint strength; sine wave splices are commonly used for coarser grits.
