The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 4" x 52-1/2" and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, delivering continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal with a closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; the belt should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral is valued for its cut-rate, durability, and long life, usable on various materials in woodworking and metalworking including ferrous alloys, with abrasive particles adhered to the cloth backing by resin to create a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts come in multiple widths and lengths for use with various belt sanding tools across different applications on wood and metal. The 3M™ selection offers belts to fit most industrial belt sanders: wider belts for wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels, smooth rough-cut metal edges, or add grain to stainless steel sheets; medium widths for edge sanders used on flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges; and narrow belts for portable belt sanders aimed at sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors. The belts include various splice types; a film media splice uses a joining film to secure the bond, minimize chatter marks, ensure smooth running, and deliver consistent finishes, while a sine wave splice consists of interlocking fingers that help the splice travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and enhance joint strength.
