The 3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 4 inches by 54 inches and features 40 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance suitable for more aggressive dry sanding applications. It is designed for finishing on metal with closed coat construction that offers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern. This belt is not intended for wet use. The aluminum oxide mineral is preferred in industrial settings for its cut rate, durability, and long life, applicable on a variety of materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. Abrasive particles are secured to the cloth backing with resin, creating a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure. The belt is compatible with various industrial belt sanders, with different widths for specific applications: wide belts for wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels and smooth metal sheet edges, medium-width belts for edge sanders to treat flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts for portable belt sanders used in sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. The belt includes splices to join the ends; film media splices use a joining film to minimize chatter marks and produce smooth, consistent finishing results, while sine wave splices use interlocking fingers for smooth travel over contact wheels, reduced hinging, and added joint strength, typically used for coarser grit belts.
