The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 4" x 54" and features 60 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, designed for fast-cutting and long-life performance in aggressive dry sanding applications. It is intended for finishing on metal, where the closed coat construction provides a consistent fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; it should not be used wet. Aluminum oxide is valued for its cut rate, durability, and long life across various materials including ferrous alloys, making it the most commonly used industrial abrasive. The resin bond secures abrasive particles to the backing, enabling the belt to withstand high heat and pressure. Abrasive belts come in multiple widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools used on wood and metal; wider belts are used on wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing metal edges, medium-width belts fit edge sanders for flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges, and narrow belts suit portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors. The belt includes different splice options to join ends; the film media splice uses a joining film to minimize chatter marks and produce consistent finishes, while the sine wave splice has interlocking fingers for smooth travel over contact wheels, reduced hinging, and added joint strength, typically applied with coarser grits.
