The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 3" x 132" with P240 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable x-weight cotton cloth backing, designed for fast-cutting and long-life performance in aggressive dry sanding applications, specifically for finishing metal with a closed coat construction that delivers a consistent, fine finish and is suitable for producing a grain pattern; it is not intended for wet use. The aluminum oxide mineral is favored in industrial settings for its cutting rate, durability, and longevity, applicable to a diverse range of materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are resin-adhered to withstand high heat and pressure. Available in various widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools, wider belts are used with wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing rough cut metal edges, medium widths fit edge sanders for sanding flat, narrow surfaces such as panel edges, and narrow belts fit portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. Belts include various splice types that join belt ends: film media splices use a joining film for a secure bond minimizing chatter marks and ensuring smooth belt operation and consistent finishing; sine wave splices consist of interlocking fingers providing smooth travel over contact wheels, reducing hinging and adding joint strength, mainly used for coarser grits.
