The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 3 inches by 168 inches and features 36 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance suitable for aggressive dry sanding applications. Designed for finishing on metal, its closed coat construction delivers a consistent fine finish and is ideal for producing a grain pattern; it is not intended for wet use. Aluminum oxide is widely used in industrial applications due to its cutting rate, durability, and longevity, and is effective on various materials including ferrous alloys in both woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are bonded to the cloth backing with resin, ensuring a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure. The belt is compatible with a variety of sanding tools and applications: wider belts fit wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing rough metal edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel; medium-width belts are used on edge sanders for sanding flat or narrow panel edges; and narrow belts pair with portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces like cabinet doors. Different splice types are available, including film media splices which use a joining film to minimize chatter marks, ensure smooth belt running, and provide consistent finishing, and sine wave splices made of interlocking fingers to smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and increase joint strength.
