The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 3" x 168" and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing continuous cut and long-life performance ideal for more aggressive dry sanding applications. The closed coat construction is designed for finishing on metal, delivering a consistent, fine finish suitable for producing a grain pattern, and should not be run wet. Aluminum oxide is widely used in industrial applications due to its cutting rate, durability, and long life, making it suitable for various materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are securely bonded to the cloth backing with resin, ensuring resistance to high heat and pressure. These abrasive belts come in multiple widths and lengths to fit different belt sanding tools, with wider belts suited for wide belt sanders to dimension or finish wood panels or smooth metal sheet edges, medium-width belts for edge sanders to sand flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges, and narrow belts for portable belt sanders used in sanding or blending items such as cabinet doors. The belts are available with various splices including film media splices, which create a secure bond with minimal chatter and a smooth running surface for consistent finishing, and sine wave splices, which consist of interlocking fingers that allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area, typically for coarser grits.
