3M™ Cloth Belt 341D measures 3" x 79" and features 80 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, designed to provide continuous cut and long-life performance for more aggressive dry sanding applications. Its closed coat construction is suitable for finishing on metal, offering a consistent, fine finish and the ability to produce a grain pattern; this belt is not intended for wet running. The aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in industrial settings due to its cutting rate, durability, and longevity, applicable on various materials including ferrous alloys in woodworking and metalworking. The abrasive particles are bonded with resin to withstand high heat and pressure. This belt is compatible with a range of belt sanding tools, including wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels and smoothing rough metal edges, medium-width belts for edge sanders to work on flat, narrow surfaces like panel edges, and narrow belts for portable sanders used on wood pieces such as cabinet doors. The belt ends are joined using splices such as film media splices, which create a secure bond minimizing chatter marks and ensuring smooth operation, or sine wave splices made of interlocking fingers that travel smoothly over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and provide extra strength, typically preferred for coarser grits.
