The 3M™ cloth belt 341D measures 3" x 90" with 24 grit aluminum oxide abrasive grains that are resin-bonded to a durable X-weight cotton cloth backing, providing fast-cutting, continuous cut, and long-life performance suitable for more aggressive dry sanding applications. This belt features a closed coat construction designed for finishing on metal, offering a consistent, fine finish and the ability to produce a grain pattern. It is intended for dry use and should not be run wet. The aluminum oxide mineral abrasive is widely used industrially for its cut rate, durability, and versatility on a variety of materials including ferrous alloys, in both woodworking and metalworking tasks. The resin bond secures the abrasive particles to the cloth backing, allowing the belt to withstand high heat and pressure. Available in various widths and lengths, these belts accommodate a range of sanders; wider belts are used on wide belt sanders for dimensioning or finishing wood panels, smoothing metal sheet edges, or adding grain patterns to stainless steel, medium-width belts fit edge sanders for sanding narrow flat surfaces like panel edges, and narrow belts suit portable belt sanders for sanding or blending wood pieces such as cabinet doors. Belt splicing options include film media splices, which use a joining film to minimize chatter marks and ensure smooth running and consistent finish quality, and sine wave splices, made of interlocking fingers that allow smooth travel over contact wheels, reduce hinging, and strengthen the joint area; sine wave splices are commonly used for coarser grit belts.
